I personally like to reserve “parasite” for the investors, the ones who will literally send you to court if you try to be human to your employees.

I’m a firm believer that regardless of operating system that a warning message saying that installing something could cause harm to your device definitely makes people think twice about installation if they’re not tech savvy (AKA know more than the bare minimum anymore). It’s definitely intentional that the large companies responsible scare you away from doing the things you want because they want you locked into doing things the way they want.

Out of all the games that I know for sure that have a native Linux port, I’m either going with Minetest, which I have been playing for Voxel Libre (once Mineclone2), or the Sonic Robo Blast 2 with the Reveries mod, despite not knowing what exactly it changes. They’re the 2 games I know have a native port that I’ve been playing the most recently.

Similar way is how I ended up finding out about Mindustry. Found it on F-Droid and liked it enough to buy it on Steam when I found out it’s available there. Definitely a good idea if done right.

It really is a massive W for Firefox, knowing that despite the security risks that are probably manufactured by gøøg|e on purpose to justify manifest v3, that they’re still gonnaet v3 extensions use the web request API. Let’s hope they keep that up for as long as possible.

Steam/Valve is pretty much one of the only companies I actually am perfectly willing to let be a monopoly as they currently stand. Especially since they have come a long ways towards making gaming so much more accessible to Linux users, like me, who don’t know how to take full advantage of wine.

I don’t use it much since I’ve already got it active on the apps I wanted it for, but on Samsung’s Galaxy Store there is an app I’ve never found an alternative to anywhere from my limited searching: Sound Assistant.

On desktop/laptop, turning off individual app/program sounds is super easy, but this is literally the only app I’ve ever seen that allows you to turn off the sound for individual apps on android. Don’t know if other versions of android from other brands or android 14 has that feature natively, but it’s a feature I wish was native to all versions of android regardless of which large brand has made their own alterations to android.

A minor problem, though, as I assume most people probably don’t give a rats ass about this.

I would just love it if I had the bus routes for my city readily available in open street maps, like how goog|e maps does it. I think goog|e maps might be my answer to the question if I can’t find anything worse.

The moment Linux takes over as a dominant desktop/laptop OS we’ll start seeing a metric ton of the windows hackers follow suit to attack us. We’ll end up in a situation where they’ll probably go after some random kernel bugs that nobody else.has found yet or just don’t think are critical/exploitable. Or they’ll just attack the biggest, most widely used distros, going after people using them and any derivative distro similar enough for their malicious tools to work on it.

In general though, it would be a good thing for Linux to become a lot more prominent in the desktop/laptop market for general users. Especially since I imagine thanks to Linux being open source, people would be able to stop these malicious actors from doing damage much quicker (even though I imagine the majority of normal people switching over would almost never update because they’re used to forced updates and not having to do it themselves).

It makes sense to delist games you can’t play in another country due to not being able to make an account so that someone doesn’t buy your game and then go for an automatic refund after finding out they can’t play it, but still a dick move.

Anyone have any objections or anything negative to say about snapdrop(dot)net besides maybe anyone on the same network could try to connect to you?

Last time I tried this, on Android, it was miserable. Here’s hoping that version isn’t a mess and you can actually play it. Months and months of updates and work has surely made it less of a janky mess, right?

Edit: someone found a version on Google Play, but I was definitely talking about an open source version on GitHub. Wanted to make a distinction in case someone thought for whatever reason I was talking about some shitty nostalgia bait mobile port.

I hope they, at the very least, start something like an I2P website or some other presumably safer alternative than a normal webpage if they go after their site.

No. If I’m going somewhere to save someone, I don’t want my presence to be openly announced to everyone by having my music blaring, especially not some kidnappers. I’d want to be as quiet as possible, whether that’s on the way there or while dealing with kidnappers. I’m not smart enough to know what I shouldn’t end up saying and who knows if the info I blab about could be used against me in some way, so shutting up would be the best solution.

I’m curious too. I’m definitely gonna have to think about looking up how they compare to each other followed by how they compare to SteamOS.

It took me some time to get used to auxio after switching from rocket music player, but I’ve come to really enjoy auxio. Would recommend, unless you want smart playlists.

Just a normal LCD I think. Doesn’t make a huge difference to me.

Mostly been playing Balatro, but I’ve now got a refurbished Steam Deck coming in a few days, so I’ll definitely be playing the Crash N. Sane Trilogy I got just because I know the Steam Deck will be able to better handle it than my desktop.

Somewhat regret the purchase now, but I’m definitely not gonna regret having a Steam Deck later, when it comes.
