The appropriate thing to do would be to send him to a competent guidance counselor and work through his feelings then send him on a path forward. Not really even a "punishment " but a correction. Before reading what happened I would have said that even that would be too much, but having read it, I don’t think it would hurt to counsel him though his feelings. I doubt Tennessee has many competent guidance counselors though.

Those are the choices though. Either at worse the status quo or the people who want it harder faster and to potentially bring it home. I would like to change joe biden’s mind, and take away funding for Israel’s death machine, so I’ll reach out to my reps, but I won’t sit out. Sitting out implies that the magnitude of this issue is unimportant. Only the issue itself.

The argument doesn’t just include American deaths, but Japanese deaths as well. You may not agree, but the us just finished in Europe far past the point where the war was effectively over, and there was the belief that the Japanese would always take it further than the germans. Part of it was the japanese war strategy. They wanted the enemy to think they would have to cut through them to the last man woman and child, to get them to give up. There was a belief that maybe a shock would do something, but there was also doubt to that. 7 more bombs were going to be ready to soften up japanese defenses during downfall. They thought they would have to do much more damage.

Edit: I did find an article which was under a pay wall where isis condemned Hamas eventually. They weren’t condemning them for attacking Israel though. They were basically condemning hamas for not being isis.

I don’t think they were from my view. They aren’t chaotic, but their rational is not based on things outside of religion. I don’t see that as npc things. They are human, and humans do not all see things the same. I’m not the one putting my views on them. They say they feel a way, and I believe them. For some reason you can’t. China is more unusual, but the Islamic world is not a simple, singular thing. Religion can be hostile to near faiths. If catholics are burning protestants(or vice versa) I wouldn’t thinking making friends with one, would endear you to the other. Even if you are friends with the Taliban, Isis doesn’t really care. To them the Taliban aren’t pure enough. No one but them are. Reaching out to the rest of the Islamic world may be seen as a negative to them.

If they are next to China, and china is not them, that may be enough for them to justify it to themselves. Religious extremists don’t tend to make perfect sense to people who see the world as it is.
