Served in the Krogan uprisings. Now I run a podcast

A corporate owned platform is not going to expose you to viewpoints that are against its interests. Lemmy is more inline with the actual state of the world as you are talking to other humans.
Sure at times we many not like what we hear but that is ok. We all need to hear other viewpoints, it is how we grow. Its not a personal attack and if you think about it being critical of a government is good, people should want their government held accountable and working for the people.
It is also not about red vs blue or any of the other bullshit labels . None of that matters, you are more like the average Russian than your leaders. Most people just want to get on with their lives with as little bullshit as possible. As for loyalty to the nation, I like Einstein’s answer here.
Viereck: “Do you look upon yourself as a German or as a Jew?”
Einstein: “It is quite possible, to be both. I look upon myself as a man. Nationalism is an infantile disease. It is the measles of mankind.”
I am from Europe and I am highly critical of the US as they are a bully, They are not some moral do-gooders that the movies paint them as. They have military bases all over the place and have meddled with so many countries. They are an empire.
“The U.S. has engaged in nearly 400 military interventions between 1776 and 2023”
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foreign_interventions_by_the_United_States
As for the platform aspect, do you think Twitter or facebook and the rest have been a net positive for humanity ?
Sure there have been positives but there have been massive negatives such as
For the record I am critical of my own government too where it makes sense but they do not invade other countries.
No I already have a full time job.
I just have a finished one where I move them after I finish the story or I’m done with a game.
Fair enough, I would have thought most things would be related to either hardware or software but I could be overlooking something. I was just trying to propose a sensible approach that could be a starting point.
As an engineer, I hate having to repeat the same thing again and again so take notes and make sure you understand them.
Secondly know the product or project intimately relative to your level. For example if I work on the project and I know it from the code and infrastructure and everything else in addition to how it works for the end user then the least I expect is that the person asking the questions has used the software with a demo account on UAT or something so that my answers will not go over their heads. Knowing the product will also allow you to talk to clients better and you will know what it can and can’t do.
I’m ok with someone if I see they are willing to make the effort regardless of their level, if someone is coming to me to do their work for them , then I lose my patience fast and will very soon be less helpful and prioritize my actual work over their bs.
Finally as I said we are often overworked and not looking to have more things to do. We are the ones that have to stay late to fix someone’s mess or get called to patch an emergency zero day in some software used by the company on a weekend. In addition we support everyone else as without us there is no product and no jobs for the rest of you. We are at the bottom of the pyramid holding the rest up with the CEO being the prick at the top.
Finally dont just engage when you need something, get to know them and see if you can help them with something. Maybe a heads up about a project or client to avoid or some thing.
It is good that you want to bridge the gap and I wish more in your position would do so.
+1 for an actual tech focused community. I think it has to be focused on software or hardware as a rule. News about stocks, CEOs, rebranding etc should not be allowed. Maybe put them in tech_news or something.
I want to read about what new feature the openbsd folks are working on or innovations by the quebes os team or a new RISC based laptop or the raspberry pi 420 that can play half life 3.
Haha thanks, I was playing mass effect Andromeda at the time I though of it.
Hopefully so.
Its fine when they do it and we get fined when we do it
At one time searching for linux was enough. https://www.eweek.com/security/linux-lands-on-nsa-watch-list/
They weren’t joking with “collect it all”.

Except windows doesnt have 100% compatibility guaranteed either , there are cases where old games and programs are no longer working on newer versions of windows. These same games and programs in many cases will work on linux as there is a compatible wine prefix.
I get your point though, I’m pointing out the 100% figure is not true for either os.
Hopefully it is delayed indefinitely
As late as possible, if I’m actually needed, then I join a minute later to not have to pretend with bs small talk
3-4 days fully remote would be ideal. Flexible hours too, define a core block of time for people to have meetings if needed.
Sky Australia dont even try to hide that they are pushing the murdock agenda
There you have it folks.
I do the same with adguard home, it works fine and like you say valid https for all services.
