Could you use a slide rule for that kind of multiplication?

Yeah point 1 is why I support a peace deal along current lines, maybe with a dmz with UN peacekeepers or something idk. Ukraine is the one getting invaded, they need time to breathe far more than Russia does.
Even if you think Russia can’t be trusted and will invade again a few years of peace is better than ceaseless war
Somehow missile flight time to St Petersburg (also happens to be where I’m from) weren’t an existential threat that lead to an invasion back when Finland joined NATO. Maybe there’s some other factor?
Why did they still lose, was it like a gerrymandering thing?
That entire process still needs lots of cash up front does it not?
Last spring bud light sent trans influencer Dylan mulvaney a personalized beer can as part of a broad marketing push. This drew criticism/calls for a boycott from various prominent transphobes and caused a slight slump in sales. Bud light responded by laying off/“laying off” various senior marketing execs etc, and did not afaict support support mulvaney after it (no loud anti-transphobia pr statement). Very illustrative story of how corporate support of lgbt people under capitalism works
Do you have a source on the devs endorsing review bombing for leverage? I only see posts about the CEO apologizing for the policy.
We even already had one when Trump tried to ban (force a sale) tiktok by executive order, it should be open and shut
it’s a mirror of “Cuba is a strong ally in the West, let’s let them have nukes. What could go wrong”
And we even made a whole movie about Kessler syndrome :|
can’t find any western countries that have it banned for the general public
Despite this, they don’t believe tiktok’s assurances that the CCP doesn’t actually have ready access to the data. However the only evidence they’ve presented is testimony from a former employee.
“People” in an authoritarian police state are not going to get organized until a) they have no other choice and b) the elites have no will left to fight them.
It’s the same pattern everywhere. Russia is worse than usual because its economy is lopsided towards exporting raw materials so the elite class is smaller/less diverse than usual.
Being loyal to people can be pretty bad actually (see, idk, Darth Vader’s biopics).
Pinkertons as police, but they failed so spectacularly
uhh you might want to brush up on your history there, the pinkertons are still around, still quite closely tied to the government, and still being used (among other things) to suppress union organizing at places like amazon and starbucks! Kinda ridiculous to hear that our government is somehow ‘socialist’ when it does stuff like this.
Yanis goes a bit overboard with stating that capitalism kinda no longer exists, since it really is about a new group of rich people simply inserting their companies as evil middlemen who leach money off the whole system.
The difference between rents and profits in economics is crucially important tho, and so many people in these threads seem not to get it. one is progressive and at least in theory moves us closer to post scarcity. and the other does the complete opposite. Yanis is right to emphasize that difference. And his proposals are perfectly market based- he wants to use the government to create competition for the current digital rentiers. if you force them to compete again so they might get back to providing added value instead of just being leeches.
People love to harp about Radical Marxist Muslim Obama but he was onto the same thing with his “public option”. Just like it is now hard to live without interacting with big tech, it’s hard to live without interacting with private health insurance. And in the same way, health insurance can never be a truly free market because the opportunity cost of not buying insurance is well, you know…
Can you give some links/references? Haven’t heard of this before
elaborate performative outrage is just fun for its own sake sometimes idk
might have something to do with being a (former) colonial empire and having a habit of looking down on other cultures. I’m Russian and we have the same problem
