Exactly. I remember early days of smartphones before a lot of the safety precautions we have today were implemented, where we saw tons of videos of batteries spontaneously combusting. They expand, there’s a pop, and then a small burst of flame that will ignite anything it touches, like your pants, tables they’re sitting on while charging, etc. You can get pretty badly burned if this happens while it’s in your pocket.

It’s just that the videos that have come out of these pagers shows an actual explosion, as if they had been packed with C4. Enough to instantly kill some people with them on their person and harm adjacent passerbys.

Seems more like globalism is to blame. They were from a Taiwanese company but manufactured in Hungary.

Guessing the source of the pagers didn’t matter at all and Israel probably intercepted a shipment to plant bombs in them themselves. Lithium batteries can ignite, but they don’t just explode like that. There were bombs put in those pagers, be it by Israel or whoever else, coordinated as a targeted operation.

4K TVs are not $2000, they’re incredibly cheap these days. You can get a 70-inch 4K TV at Costco or similar retailers for less than $500. And even less than that for more reasonable TV sizes.

I normally don’t like factoring in the cost of other hardware anyways because the computer will also need a monitor, mouse, keyboard, speakers, etc. which are things you don’t necessarily want to skimp on either.

I don’t own an Xbox so I am not quite sure, but I don’t think it applies in quite the same way, namely that in order to play Final Fantasy XIV on Xbox, I read that you need a Gamepass subscription in addition to the game subscription itself, which is not a requirement on PlayStation.

But for truly free to play games, maybe.

FWIW there are exceptions to that. On PlayStation, you only need a subscription if PSN handles the online component of the game. Companies that manage their own online services don’t require it. Genshin Impact, Final Fantasy 14, Warframe, Fortnite, etc. can all be played without PS+

A decent GPU alone will run as much as an entire PS5. You get other computer perks when building a PC, but the simple fact is that a lot of gamers are priced out of it.

But the point in this case is that your Steam library is not even “property” to begin with, it is a contract that becomes invalid when one of the parties (the customer) dies.

I have not used either, but I can say that Krita’s UI is closer to Photoshop than GIMP’s appears to be. That might be why people are opting for that application, for the sense of familiarity if they were trained on Photoshop.

I will say that any application which is used for digital painting should also be good at image manipulation, so if Krita does both well, I can see why it would be preferred over GIMP if the painting tools are lacking.

Looking over the screenshots, for GIMP, I am hoping that is not the default layout of tools. Having a jumbled block of icons is a lot harder to visually parse than a stack of pairs. I also find myself wondering why they use up so much space on the left to include a weird cutout of their mascot above the tools.

On the right, I am also not sure why the layer thumbnails are pushed so far to the right when they could be immediately adjacent to the visibility toggle.

It doesn’t look terrible to me, but I am not surprised that people using an app for visual design might be more critical of design flaws in the app itself.

There was a horrific video from years back of dashcam footage where a family was driving down the highway and a brick flew through their windshield, killing the wife in the passenger seat instantly. I can’t imagine going through that much trauma as a family.
