It’s always better to go that route. I also understand having hardware requirements and not being able to find a version of those models with Linux installed.

I like what system 76 is doing but I don’t think they really have competition in the US market right now. If you don’t mind a clevo and you live in the US I’d recommend them.

Don’t take it personally, it’s just a direction I haven’t seen many researchers/pen testers use. I’ve seen most run it on a virtual machine or a second computer and modify Ubuntu/Debian to better suit their needs and a primary computer/os for business transactions etc.

I can’t speak for hackers but from anecdotal evidence it seems like they can do their work on most systems but hacking hardware is just easier on Linux in general.

You mean that distro people use to pretend to be a hacker/security researcher. It’s just hardened Debian with a few tools installed. I’ve set something like that up in an afternoon tbh.

Some manufacturers allow you to get a refund for pre installed windows if you feel like sitting on the phone for hours. Something about a lawsuit involving Microsoft and anticompetitive contracts with the manufacturer not allowing the distribution of other operating systems.

I’ve seen a story about someone who got a refund for their dell laptop but it was slow, and the support staff was rude about it during the process. They stated things like the Microsoft software is free and why would you want to remove windows anyway, passing him from department to department. It’s often $60-$80 depending on the version of windows etc.

Edit: I should clarify it might only be a US thing, I’ve heard people in France having some luck.

The easier it is for onboarding the better, even if it includes proprietary software. The discovery of free or open source software will come when they start exploring what’s available on Linux and find workflows that suit them.

I like free and open source software but the freedom of choice is what’s really important in the end.

10 year old games on a 4k OLED with maxed out settings is the best. Especially if it’s a game you can run above 60 fps.

Managers are always tied to their corporate overlords. Developers can choose to freelance and potentially make more while not having to stick around and maintain an aging codebase if they’re skilled enough.

Weren’t are nukes controlled by IBM series/1 systems and floppy discs until 2019. They said they upgraded to a highly secure solid state system. I finally picked up a steam deck so I can find more time to enjoy my library. It’s weird how your attitude changes when you start using your gaming PC for studying or work. I just don’t want to sit there for a few more hours after spending three or four working on something.

And I use arch because it was the first one that worked well on my hardware. Being into software development it’s probably not surprising to say I’m attracted to shiny new technologies.

I love the fact your using Linux for your digital art. It validates the notion I’ve had about potentially using Linux for learning how to create illustrations and potentially small animations. I’ve used tools like gimp for Photoshop like stuff and davinchi resolve (a tool I’ve used) works on Linux. I might pick up a cheap little waycom eventually and see what happens.

It would be fun to have a stream where software I wrote allows people to shout over each other (running completely locally) while I fail at drawing or making more janky code to do useful/silly stuff.

At least he tried it. Maybe he’ll pick up a second drive and dualboot. Regardless I have mad respect for someone who doesn’t just assume things but puts the effort into finding out for themselves.

I remember when I was testing the water. I accidentally nuked my drive and something about that felt so final. At least after I found the USB drive I kept my backed up files, that was a real nightmare. I thought I lost my receipts for tax sure but all those photos and videos.

My switch collects dust because I’ve grown a custom to picking up 10-15 games for the same price as a three year old title on the switch.

Unless you use an Nvidia graphics card. Every little update seems to improve stability and support. I’m on hyprland because plasma 5 had pretty annoying bug they neglected to fix on Nvidia but plasma 6 is starting to look stable so I might switch to it or wait for cosmic. I’m not sure if I could live without tiling and the way virtual desktops work on it now.

I find myself hitting hotkeys that simple aren’t possible on kde. I simply couldn’t use an lts distro with the ever growing gap between the improvements then and where we are at now.

Also x11 sucks and has made my experience miserable Everytime I’ve tried to use it. Anything from horrible screen tearing(from scaling) on Intel integrated to consistent lag and stutter on Nvidia, I’m glad it’s dying.
