A partial fingerprint and DNA recovered during the search have so far not yielded matches when compared against law enforcement databases, according to a law enforcement official
This got rushed…
Meanwhile the NYPD specifically and law enforcement in general has a massive backlog of untested rape kits they can’t even quantify because they’re spread out in hospital closets all over the place without even a comprehensive index.
The fact that NYPD is fast tracking this is exactly why everyone hates law enforcement.
There’s a different set of rules for the wealthy than everyone else, and a different set of punishments.
Anytime a wealthy person is the criminal it takes years (if ever) to see a court date. If the victim is a wealthy person everything else gets thrown out the window.
And if it’s a corporation killing people, their environment, or their way of life, then it’s maybe a small fine already baked into their budget and a promise to “do better”.
I feel Perdue execs should have gotten 100k or so murder charges, but here we are.
Or Exxon who made a ton of promises they knew they couldn’t keep, and then had the Valdez spill that decimated a whole community and then some.
Exxon denial -
“We’ve done 350 peer-reviewed studies of Prince William Sound, and those studies conclude that Prince William Sound has recovered, it’s healthy and it’s thriving.”
From 2014 (25yrs later) -
Federal scientists estimate that between 16,000 and 21,000 US gallons (61 to 79 m3) of oil remains on beaches in Prince William Sound and up to 450 miles (725 km) away. Some of the oil does not appear to have biodegraded at all. A USGS scientist who analyses the remaining oil along the coastline states that it remains among rocks and between tide marks. “The oil mixes with seawater and forms an emulsion…Left out, the surface crusts over but the inside still has the consistency of mayonnaise – or mousse.”
If the guy had raped the CEO first, do you think they’d suddenly fly through all those rape kits?
No, they’d skip everyone in the backlog and do the wealthy person’s…
The difference isn’t the crime, it’s the social standing of the victim.
Like, there’s been other murders in NYC, which would have also left this kind of evidence, they don’t check those either.
I guess I was thinking those rape kits might help solve that hypothetical case but I suppose not.
No worries, when they’re brought up a common complaint is there could very likely be a fraction of rapists as there are victims.
Because serial rapists are a thing, and the open knowledge that cops don’t care about them unless the victim is high social standing means they’re likely to keep doing it.
But that still doesn’t get cops to look at a backlog in those few cases to see if there’s matches. People that habitually prey on others know that if you target the rich, the cops actually try. So with a high profile victim, it’s more likely to be staged as random crime of opportunity as to really be random.
If you look back on serial killers/rapists that were caught, it’s pretty common for them to be caught because one of their victims was from “middle class” or higher, and the vast majority of victims were from disadvantaged communities.
So there’s a lot going on with the topic.
In for a penny, in for a pound: maybe he’ll “slip up” and imply that he’s a serial rapist, then refuse to answer any further questions about it. Make them search the evidence.
That video would be uploaded on pornhub and many straight man might find it interesting
everyone
NYC time to do your duty:
Delay jury deliberations until everyone agrees on a not guilty verdict
Deny that you know anything about jury nullification
Defend our hero
i wish we could do more for this guy.
I mean, you can.
I’m gonna
stealshoot the declaration of independenceI can hear that
Working off of a tip, police stopped a person traveling by bus and recovered a suppressor and a number of false IDs, one of the officials added.
Snitches get stitches
But also, if this is the guy, the moment they release his name it’s gonna become memorialized
A GoFundMe for legal defense would break the interenet, and I gotta feel like this guy knows that…
Also, for anyone wondering why he’d ditch a gun and save a suppressor, it’s because suppressors are federally registered. In many states a gun can show up and be connected to a crime, and they can just say it was sold to someone and they do t remember/know the buyers name.
A silencer has accountability and would need a paper trail showing a transfer of ownership.
Edit:
Apparently other sources say he had the fun too:
But still, it’s crazy we dont have a federal gun registry and not all states have them either.
I don’t have a wealth of gun knowledge, but I read at least one report right after the shooting naming the type of pistol and why suspect chose it (because it had a long barrel that worked as a suppressor without having to attach/buy one). It even stated that because of the obscurity of the pistol it would 1) narrow down the amount of people owning one 2) would likely be someone with a good knowledge of firearms and well thoughout plan.
There’s the “Welrod” which is WW2 era and at least one modern replica produced today.
Those are designed to be as quite as possible, and require each round to be manually loaded by rotating the back of the gun. Like, its comparable maybe even quieter than shutting a car door.
But it definitely wasn’t what was used in the video.
Also, I just saw another article that says he still had the gun too.
So, slightly conflicting info from different sources on what he had
This isn’t the same article (it was one probably linked here at some point) but here is one saying it may have been a veterinary pistol.
Edit victim of autocorrect =(
After firing each shot, the gunman racked back the pistol to load a new round, then racked it again when it jammed, John Monaghan, a retired NYPD captain, told CNN on Friday.
“It’s a very unique weapon. The length of the barrel in that video right there tells us it most probably is a veterinary pistol,” he added.
Yeah, that guy just had no idea what he was talking about…
Vets rarely use gunpowder pistols, at most they use these weird pistols that require the barrel being removed to load each round, and only like a 3 inch barrel max, often barely longer than the bullet even. One always gets posted in gun deal communities as a joke for like $99.99
I 100% see reading that article and assuming he knew what he was talking about tho.
But especially with the NYPD, a lot of captains are fucking idiots and wildly corrupt, Eric Adams was one too. They don’t rise they the ranks by being good cops, they make captain by being corrupt.
It was likely a hand made gun. Like a 3d printed thing.
Either way, the dude should have been more careful and at least buried the evidence somewhere.
We should all be taking notes on how they found him, and put that in a checklist.
Some employee at McDonald’s recognized him and ratted him out. Class traitor.
It was likely a hand made gun. Like a 3d printed thing
Why?
That still leaves a substantial paper trail, the real gangsta move is always the OG move. Just buy one used from a “private seller” without even an ID let alone a background check.
Like, if you think building a p80 would be less risk, you have no idea how easy it is to buy a gun without a background check in America…
Yes, this is what the highly credible NYPD was claiming. However, the B&T requires the user to twist the rear to lock and unlock the action when cycling. This motion is not visible in the assassination video. Also, there would be no purpose in slapping the back of the slide to ensure it’s in battery, as is done in the same video.
But I don’t want the gubernment to have a registry showing my five guns that I constantly describe in detail to everyone and photograph regularly for lib-owning Christmas cards on social media. If there were a registry, they could use that information to send more of their government-manned guns against me, a single person with fewer hands than I have guns. Can’t you see that this unreasonably risky lapse in information is all about MY safety???
photograph regularly for lib-owning Christmas cards on
social mediaX and Truth SocialFixed that for you.
I appreciate your assistance! Don’t forget Facebook, though. Gotta upset the nieces and nephews and make the siblings ask “what’s wrong with them? They weren’t like this when we were kids”
I hope the snitch gets found out too
Um… lets not target someone who is potentially just unwittingly being a useful idiot.
Not everyone understands the entire situation, given how much propaganda the media has to make people sympathize with this mass murderer CEO. Whoever gave the tip is an idiot, and should be ashamed of themselves, but lets not incite violence against them, they are just a victim of propaganda.
Nah man, zero tolerance for snitching. Period.
To elaborate:
-
cops are allowed to lie to you if they think it’ll help their investigation. You can’t trust a word they say.
-
You have no idea how information you give will be used or who it will be used against.
-
mind your own fucking business
Snitches get stitches.
-1) think you’ll get a nice $50k reward for selling out a guy, then find out you didn’t do enough to actually qualify for it.
Some policeman’s brother happened to call in the tip an hour before conveniently along the same roadway and gets it instead.
-
No, Lemmy will crucify that person even if they had no clue about the situation at all.
Lemmy is all in on inciting violence
Edit clarification, I agree with you.
Mob mentality is not limited to Lemmy
Of course, but we are here on Lemmy. When you say “let’s not…” On Lemmy, you’re addressing Lemmy
If you want to participate in threads where half the comments are deleted, go back to reddit.
We aren’t inciting violence, the fat cats and their bottomless greed are.
Huh? A random person, who may not have known the news or reasoning, may be the target of the Internet’s ire. That hypothetical sucks, and is all I’m discussing. Sure, they possibly did know the story, but remember millions of people are far less online/news attached than most here.
Edit be mad at ceos all you want, I’m not discussing that here. I’m discussing the potential person who spotted the person of interest
The handwritten manifesto found on the person of the man detained in Altoona criticized health care companies for putting profits above care, according to a senior law enforcement official.
The man who was detained at McDonald’s showed the police the same fake New Jersey identification that the man believed to be the gunman presented when he checked into a hostel on the Upper West Side of Manhattan on Nov. 24, a senior law enforcement official said.
Oh shit it’s him.
If he didn’t ditch the gun, fake ID’s, and a smoking gun manifesto, this guy isn’t that bright.
Either a copy cat or a diversion IMHO
Watch him having a strong albi like being at work that AM
NYPD probably found the gun and id’s in the backpack found in central park and planted it on this guy so they could claim victory
I mean that’s about how I expect a generic cop to do investigation
The gun with a silencer and the ID are going to net him a couple of years regardless. No one would risk that just as a diversion.
Ehh looks like they got him…
Good thing he dindu nuffin.
Any reasonable jury can agree with that IMHO
the same fake new jersy identification
You fool!
Welp, at least the silver lining is that they didn’t randomly accuse a scapegoat.
Let the Nullification begin!
He’s going to be villified badly by the media.
They’ll probably give him a mental health diagnosis so they can argue he wasn’t sane. It would be too dangerous for them to accept him as sane.
Kind of like Kacyznski’s political diagnosis of “schizophrenia” after he killed the CEO of a logging company. Which was called a “political diagnosis” by his post-trial prisoner psychiatrist.
If he’s put even a single toe out of line in the past, it’ll be dissected in the media.
News on NYC TV says that NYC cops and district attorneys are making all speed to Altoona. When you get the DA out of his office…
Why keep all that evidence on him?
Do everything like a pro but botch last leg?
If that’s the guy that pulled down the mask, then he was not really a pro.
But… at least that smile got us memes.
May the meme format last forever
The picture of the guy smiling and the shooter don’t match.
Different backpack color
Jackets don’t match, one has front pocket, other doesn’t
Anyone who could pull the hit and escape without a trace would not be dumb enough to carry around the evidence with him in a public place instead of ditching the evidence and laying low.
It’s literally impossible to change clothes.
Furthermore, he did leave traces. And there are cameras everywhere in NYC.
Stop the dumb conspiracies.
What was pro about this?
The wishful thinking.
I don’t think shooting a man in the street and then escaping with an e-bike is how the pros do it.
The bicycle thing reminded me of Grosse Point Blank https://youtu.be/eTdzD3R4mg0
Dang. If I were to do something like this I would totally not show up anywhere I wouldn’t usually go for 2 weeks.
With the stakes being what they’ve now become, does it matter if they truly found the guy or can prove it was him?
Most importantly who will accept any alternative truth posed about the situation?
All he needs to do is run for President.
I don’t know if a healthcare CEO assassin eating at McDonalds lines up.
Welp, they announced the suspect. Luigi Mangione, 26. Here is his possible twitter. The eyebrows seem to match 😔
Wow that was quick. His fb and linkin tree are still up for anyone curious
Ah they nuked it.
Well I wasn’t able to get the twitter archived in time either, someone else did it before me, I just used the search function to find that version.
In the Mario + Rabbids series, Luigi is a sniper. His vacuum a rifle.
