You would do good here in The Netherlands. Lots of tech jobs, over here you actually have rights as an employee. No max amount of sick days for example, as no one plans a certain amount of days to be sick. The “FrEeDoM” Americans claim to have is so twisted and extremity far away from actual freedom. Here in NL I do feel I have true freedom. As in: not having to be scared when going out on the streets at night, no matter where I go. There are no guns. No crimes against humanity. Of course we do have issues, every country does. But they are tiny compared to most countries. Although we did vote for right wing parties sadly, we’re not heading in the direction I want.

Oh and EVERYONE speaks English. From child to boomer. Officially it’s not a foreign language anymore due to the high level English most speak. They are even discussing it should be a 3rd national language.

Edit: there’s also a (very unfair to us natives) 30%!!! tax cut for expats to make NL more attractive. So you will make a lot of money yet pay less taxes while having loads of benifits as an employee.

Only issue right now is finding a house. Not enough houses so insane prices. A real housing crisis.

Here in The Netherlands the pre-made meals are getting worse and worse. Due to the price wars by the grocery stores (maaaaany stores per capita) the producers won’t get much money for their product, so they are cutting corners. It’s an inflation thing. Either things get more expensive, packaging gets smaller for the same price or they take out pricy ingredients. Over here canned soup isn’t cheap, it lacks nutrition and a 2 portion can isn’t enough to fill 1 person’s stomach.

A bag of pre-cut veggies, pre-peeled potatoes, add some beans, bake 5min with some herbs and throw in a blender with some water. Throw the blended stuff in a pan, boil with some cream and add some pasta. Super tasty soup is ready in 10 to 12 min. Enough soup for 4 days. But I don’t mind cutting some veggies, they only need some rough cutting as they go into the blender anyway. Just use easy to cut veggies. Broccoli or cauliflower for example, or courgettes like I used yesterday. Soup for 4 to 5 days costs roughly 5 to 7 euros. Add a euro for home made bread made with a bread baking machine and you have a proper meal. Just throw some baking mix and water in it and 3h later you have fresh warm bread. Honestly, making your own soup in 12min for 4 days is roughly 6min more effort then canned soup. No added sugar, conservatives and too much salt. Much better taste. Especially when you add some blue cheese.

Ah. I don’t eat meat. I think that’s why my soups are so cheap to make. I mostly use beans to replace meat and beans are really cheap.

Who eats canned soup in the first place. Fresh ingredients is cheaper, healthier and tastier.

I have used dual boot, live usb sticks and VM’s. It’s just that I don’t feel that comfortable within the Linux environment as my knowledge is lacking somewhat and I haven’t used it enough to fix that.

Is it user friendly? I mainly want Linux with Android app support because I hate Google.

I’ve used windows my entitle life. Now windows 11 upgrade was done without consent, now they are doing their best to make it even worse then it already was. I would love to switch to Linux, it’s just that I’m using some apps which do not exist for Linux yet. Next to that I’m not that comfortable with the Linux mechanics to make the switch on my main PC. As in: Like I know what I’m doing on the machine which I use a big part of my time. I need full control. I know I have it with Linux, I just don’t know how. And I feel stupid for it.

The moral of my story is: I’m scared to make a switch from something I’m so familiar with for years and years to something new, even though I hate the corporations behind the stuff I use.

Every movement with a gun sounds like there’s a loose screw in it (it always clicks). Also it usually has a clip of 300+ bullets.

Every mouse or keyboard input into a computer, every loading bar, every screen popping up makes screaching sounds. Except when having a failing DVD drive or broken hard disk I’ve never heard any computer making these sounds.

A secret tracking or listening device has a blinking red light and beeps.

Every car, always with airconditioning, drives with open windows because of the window reflections. Even during rain, extreme heat or highly contagious zombies trying to bite you through the open window.

Ok so I’m not moving for the coming 10 years for sure, and if I’m moving it probably won’t be Mexico. But the climate change thing is something I worry about. I live in the Netherlands, most parts are below sea level. The dykes are being reinforced, but the plans for now are finished in about 10 years and won’t be high and strong enough in about 5 years, so we need to start to reinforce it even more 5 years before the current plans are being completed. At the same time ground water levels are getting lower, so trees are unable to get water from the ground and die, so the roots will die too and won’t be able to hold the ground together. It’s getting harder and harder pumping drinking water from the ground. Next to that, salt seawater is normally held back in the ground by the ground water, but because it’s level is getting lower while the sea level is rising, salt seawater is making it’s way into the ground, killing more greenery because it’s polluting the groundwater and making it undrinkable. So I may be forced to move, as well as most inhabitants here if this shit continues. 10 to 12 million people forced to relocate due to lack of water AND too much water at the same time. Weird AF.

That’s seriously fucked up. I wouldn’t want to contribute to that. Sadly, I’ve seen this shit way to often and I strongly oppose to it.

I need to spend that much for basics, like food and a roof over my head. I’m basically a slave, I need to work most of my life without being able to build up anything. No saving, buying a house, etc.

But I’m aware I live in one of the wealthiest countries, where I do not have to fear anything no matter where I go. I’m aware I’m extremely lucky to have been born here. I’ve seen how life can be different, when I went on deployment to the Middle East and Africa. I’ve been to horrible places and have seen horrible things.

But life here is extremely expensive. We make more money, but in the end we have nothing left after we payed all the bills to keep a roof over our heads and food on the table. I don’t have much to lose, as I’m depressed AF, alone as my wife left me, stuck with PTSD from when I was in the military, unable to enjoy life anymore somehow. So a holiday in Mexico where I snort loads of cocain with a bunch of hookers before I get robbed and killed doesn’t sound so bad really.

Ha! Jokes on you! I’m poor because I have to spend 1900 euros per month on rent alone so there’s nothing to rob me of. You can’t even rob me of my dignity anymore.

Jokes aside, I’m aware of the major issues Mexico has. I’ve never been there but I would love to visit as it’s a beautiful country. But I’m too chicken to go due to the high crime rate etc. And tickets are too expensive, I wasn’t joking about having no money because my decent salary is being sucked up completely by rent, taxes, bills, insurances and food.

But I’m glad Mexico has elected a leader I could only dream of. I hope she can make a change towards better. Or at least, I hope she is what she looks like. I mean, is she really good or only looks like that (like the president of India). At least she looks like Merkel + + +
