Summary

Hispanic and LGBTQ communities have been targeted with disturbing anonymous text messages threatening deportation or “re-education camps,” escalating fear and uncertainty.

Latino students in Georgia received texts about deportation, while a lesbian entrepreneur in Nevada was told to report to a camp promoting conversion therapy.

Authorities, including ICE and the FBI, confirmed the messages are hoaxes, but fear of reporting persists among immigrant families.

These messages have instilled fear and uncertainty, especially among immigrant families, but advocates are urging victims to report incidents to trusted officials or community leaders to combat the harassment.
